Speaking on the event, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh stated, “Indian Navy has been a robust proponent of indigenization & self-reliance in defence over previous 7 a long time. At current, out of 42 ships & submarines on order, 40 are being constructed in Indian shipyards.”

Two submarines of this class, INS Kalvari and INS Khanderi, have already been commissioned into the Navy. A fourth of the category, INS Vela, has been present process trials at sea.
