22-12 months-previous Irish swimmer Daniel Wiffen units a brand new world file within the 800m freestyle that was beforehand held by Australia’s Grant Hackett.

Irishman Daniel Wiffen gained his third gold medal on the European brief course swimming championships on Sunday, breaking the world file within the 800m freestyle which had stood for 15 years.

Wiffen eclipsed Australian Grant Hackett’s mark set in 2008 by virtually three seconds, clocking 7min 20.46sec to smash the game’s oldest world file.

The 22-12 months-previous added the 800m title to the golds he claimed earlier this week in Otopeni, Romania, within the 400m and 1500m freestyle.
