Just 4 wickets away from becoming a member of the elite 500-wicket membership, Australia spinner Nathan Lyon on Wednesday acknowledged the position performed by India tweaker Ravichandran Ashwin in his profession, hailing him as “one of my biggest coaches”.
Ahead of the opening Test towards Pakistan beginning right here on Thursday, Lyon, who is coming back from a calf harm, solely had respect for Ashwin.
“You look at Ashwin, he’s a world-class bowler and somebody I’ve watched closely from the start of his career,” Lyon was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“We’ve gone head-to-head many times in different conditions around the world. I’ve definitely learned from him.
“There’s a possibility to be taught from the individuals you play towards, and with out realizing it he’s in all probability been one of my greatest coaches in a manner,” he said.
Lyon has 496 wickets, while Ashwin, who is currently touring South Africa for two Tests, has 489 wickets.
“It’s fairly wonderful to see we’re each creeping as much as that 500 mark, and we’ll see the place we find yourself. Hopefully on the finish of our profession we’ll sit down and have a pleasant feed and a beer and discuss it,” Lyon mentioned.
Legendary Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan are the one spinners to have achieved the feat of snapping 500 or extra Test wickets in worldwide cricket.
