Maharashtra: Despite Warning And Surging Covid Cases; Huge Crowd Could Be Seen Flouting Norms In Nagpur

Nagpur: On Sunday, people could be seen flouting social distancing norms and mask protocols despite warnings from the state authorities. People were seen in huge numbers flout social distancing norms at Sitabuldi main road in Nagpur going about their business. Maharashtra reported 6,971 new COVID-19 cases and 35 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per State Health Department the total death toll is 51,788 while the active cases are 52,956.

A total of 16,154 people have been fined for not wearing face masks at public places in a single day today in Mumbai, says Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned the citizens to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures in order to avoid the imposition of complete lockdown in the state. 

“Those who want lockdown can roam around without mask while those who don’t want it must wear mask and follow all the rules,” CM Thackeray said.

Starting Monday, CM Thackrey announced that all political, religious, social processions, rallies, agitations, crowds and large processions will be banned for a few more days. 

In order to curb the virus, the Pune administration has announced to enforce certain restrictions in the district including night curfew for the people indulged in non-essential services. The crowd will not be allowed to come out of homes between 11 pm and 6 am however, people will be allowed to travel for the essential services. Schools & colleges in the district will remain closed till 28 February.

Guardian Minister Yashomati Thakur on Sunday announced that one-week complete lockdown has been enforced in Amravati district excluding Achalpur city with only essential services allowed to function.
