Maharashtra extends lockdown till May 15 amid rising cases of COVID-19

New Delhi: The Maharashtra authorities on Thursday (April 29) prolonged its COVID-19 induced lockdown-like restrictions till May 15.

The lockdown-like restrictions will now proceed till 7 am on May 15. 

The order issued by chief secretary Sitaram Kunte stated this resolution was taken because the state continued to be threatened with the unfold of COVID-19. Therefore, it’s “imperative to continue the emergency measures” as a way to stem the transmission of the lethal coronavirus, he added. 

Earlier, lockdown in Maharashtra was slated to finish on May 1 at 7 am. 

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had given indications that the state authorities is in favour of extending the total lockdown, probably for an additional 15 days, till May 15.

The slew of restrictions to curb the COVID-19 spurt within the state consists of prohibitory orders underneath part 144 of the CrPC, banning meeting of 5 or extra individuals at one spot. 

Local practice companies in Mumbai and public transport can be found just for important companies employees of the federal government. Essential companies have been exempted from the curbs.

Meanwhile, 66,159 new cases of coronavirus had been reported within the final 24 hours, pushing the caseload to 45,39,553 in Maharashtra. While 771 fatalities had been recorded in a single day, taking the dying toll to 67,985, as per state Health Ministry information on Thursday.
