Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday stated that 60 individuals have been killed, 231 injured and 1,700 homes together with spiritual locations burnt within the ethnic violence that rocked the northeastern state for the previous few days.
Addressing a press convention in Imphal, the chief minister stated that the state cupboard resolved to present ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the households of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh to those that suffered main accidents and Rs 25,000 to these with minor accidents.
“These are very very unfortunate incidents. I appeal to people to bring peace together at the earliest,” Singh stated.
He stated that 1,700 homes together with temples and church buildings have been burnt down through the violence.
The chief minister stated that Rs 2 lakh will likely be paid to these whose homes have been destroyed and the federal government will rebuild them.

Another 10,000 more stranded people will be transported to safety as soon as possible…. Human lives are precious and destroying homes and properties are unacceptable,” Singh stated.
The chief minister stated 1041 weapons have been looted from safety power personnel, out of which 214 have been recovered.
He requested those that looted the weapons to return these to the closest police station, failing which a “mass combing operation” will likely be launched.
The authorities has initiated many steps to carry again stranded individuals from completely different elements of the state such as Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Imphal West, Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts, he stated.
A cupboard panel has been shaped to oversee the motion of the stranded individuals to their respective locations, he stated.
“The SPs have been directed to identify vulnerable areas and ensure round-the-clock provision of full-proof security and protection for land and property, in the absence of their owners. They have been directed to take immediate action as per law against persons attempting to loot or occupy such land and property,” Singh stated.
The scenario in Manipur is quick returning to regular, says Kuldeep Singh, Security Advisor to the chief minister.
He advised reporters that 218 FIRs have been registered towards miscreants concerned within the rioting.
Violent clashes broke out within the northeastern state after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised within the 10 hill districts on May 3 to protest towards the Meitei neighborhood’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) standing, main to the deaths of no less than 54 individuals.
Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur’s inhabitants and stay principally within the Imphal valley. Tribals — Nagas and Kukis — represent one other 40 per cent of the inhabitants and stay within the hill districts.
