Market update: Sensex tumbles 338 pts, Nifty slips below 15K

Mumbai, May 20 (PTI): Equity benchmark Sensex tumbled 338 factors on Thursday, dragged by losses in index majors HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank amid weak international cues.

Slipping below the 50,000 mark, the 30-share BSE index ended 337.78 factors or 0.68 per cent decrease at 49,564.86. The broader NSE Nifty declined 124.10 factors or 0.83 per cent to 14,906.05.

ONGC was the highest loser within the Sensex pack, shedding round 3 per cent, adopted by Sun Pharma, PowerGrid, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Kotak Bank.
On the opposite hand, M&M, IndusInd Bank, Titan, L&T and Bajaj Finserv have been among the many gainers.

Binod Modi, Head Strategy at Reliance Securities, mentioned home equities corrected for second consecutive day as promoting strain in financials, FMCG and metals dragged Nifty below 15,000 ranges.

“Further, weak international cues led by rising apprehensions amongst buyers publish launch of FOMC assembly minutes additionally weighed on sentiments,” he said.

Metal shares witnessed heavy promoting strain after China’s transfer to curb commodity costs within the nation, Modi added.

Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul ended on a detrimental notice, whereas Nikkei was within the constructive terrain.

Equities in Europe have been largely buying and selling with positive factors in mid-session offers.

Meanwhile, worldwide oil benchmark Brent crude was buying and selling 0.15 per cent larger at USD 66.76 per barrel.
