Media persons must be treated as frontline staff for COVID-19 vaccination: Fadnavis

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday demanded that journalists, photographers and camerapersons be included within the frontline staff class to get them inoculated in opposition to coronavirus. In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the BJP chief stated no less than 12 states within the nation have recognised journalists and camerapersons as frontline staff and vaccinated them.

“Some 12 states in the country have recognised journalists and camerapersons as frontline workers and given them the vaccine. Unfortunately, the decision is still pending in Maharashtra,” Fadnavis stated.

Several media persons have succumbed to COVID-19 within the first and second waves of the pandemic, he stated.

“It is our duty to take care of journalists. Once they are recognised as frontline workers, they will get prioritised in the vaccination drive,” he stated.

Journalists go to hospitals, crematoriums and different locations to focus on issues confronted by the widespread man through the pandemic, the chief of opposition stated.

“They are concerned in sensitising folks about COVID-19 acceptable behaviour, bodily distancing and different norms.

Many journalists can not work at home. Hence, there ought to be no additional delay in together with them within the frontline staff class, in order that they get vaccinated,” he stated.

States together with Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, West Bengal amongst others have recognised media persons as frontline staff for the COVID-19 vaccination drive.
