NEW YORK: The New York Mets will put on tribute patches on the sleeves of their uniforms this 12 months in honor of the late Bud Harrelson.
New York stated Monday the patches will characteristic Harrelson’s No. 3 and “BUDDY.” The Mets stated the facet of the sleeve with the patch will differ relying on whether or not a participant is correct-handed or left-handed.
The shortstop died on Jan. 10 at age 79 after being stricken with Alzheimer’s illness. He was a participant on the Mets’ 1969 World Series champions and a coach for the 1986 championship workforce. Harrelson performed for the Mets from 1965-77 and managed the workforce in 1990 and ’91.
His six grandchildren will participate in a ceremonial first pitch ceremony earlier than Thursday’s opener.
