Legendary athlete Milkha Singh’s Nirmal died on Sunday after battling Covid-19, aged 85.
Former Director of Sports for Women in the Punjab Government and former Captain of the Indian Women’s National Volleyball Team, Nirmal Milkha Singh, “fought a valiant battle until the very finish”, The Milkha family said in a statement.
She is survived by her husband, one son and three daughters. Her son Jeev Milkha Singh is a renowned golfer.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said: “I am saddened to learn about the death of one of the iconic volleyball players who brought several laurels for the country thus making every Punjabi proud.”
Milka Singh is being handled for Covid associated problems on the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, and confirmed enchancment in his well being situations on Saturday.
“Milkha Singh’s well being is ok and bettering, however he’s nonetheless in the ICU,” said a spokesperson for the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Saturday.
Milkha Singh has been under the observation of a medical team comprising senior doctors of the institute since his hospitalisation on June 3.
“Our heart felt condolences on the sad demise of Mrs Nirmal Milkha Singh after battling with Covid-19,” stated PGIMER Director Jagat Ram in an announcement.
“Widely recognized for her a number of achievements in the sports activities area and her in depth philanthropic works, she can be fondly remembered for her accomplishments on and off the sphere,” he added.
