Delhi Police have arrested six members of a multi-state gang which was allegedly concerned in stealing high-end vehicles like Fortuner SUV within the nationwide capital at gun level and promoting them for as little as Rs 3 lakh in Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat, officers mentioned on Tuesday.
The gang was busted when police officers have been investigating an incident of carjacking in Dwarka earlier this month. Officials mentioned Vikram (40) led the gang and Arjun (26), Rohit (29) and Vicky (30) have been his associates.
Two others arrested within the case ? Ashraf (68) and Ramesh (36) ? provided arms and ammunition to the gang. These two would additionally take the supply of stolen vehicles and bought them both in Jammu and Kashmir or delivered the autos to a different affiliate named Illiyas in Gujarat, officers added.
Police have recovered 4 pistols, eight reside cartridges and a Hyundai i20 from them.
While investigating the carjacking incident in Dwarka, police seen the gang was utilizing the i20 automobile within the fee of the crime, mentioned Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan.
Police then mobilised their informers and laid a lure close to a college in Dwarka. Vikram and his associates have been arrested from there, Vardhan mentioned.
Vikram was then taken to Jammu and Kashmir to hint their weapon suppliers and those that took the supply of the stolen autos.
The police group used a Fortuner SUV to put a lure and was capable of nab Ashraf and Ramesh from Jammu, the DCP mentioned including two pistols, 4 reside cartridges and a stolen Fortuner automobile have been recovered from them.
Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, Vardhan mentioned the members would snatch the cell phone of automobile house owners or drivers at gun-point after which pushed them out of the car.
“After that Vikram would drive the car all the way to Jammu the same night and hand it over to Ashraf and Ramesh, who would further sold the cars to a person named Illiyas in Ahmedabad, Gujarat,” the DCP mentioned.
During interrogation, Vikram informed police his cousin Arun, who’s in Bhondsi Jail in Gurugram, lured him into carjacking, they mentioned.
With the arrests, police claimed to have solved 5 circumstances of theft and arms act in Delhi.
