New Delhi: Mumbai is “very likely” to obtain extraordinarily heavy rainfall at remoted locations on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted.
The same ‘purple alert’ has additionally been issued for Ratnagiri and Raigad districts in coastal Maharashtra, PTI reported.
Monsoon hit Maharashtra on June 9 and since then Mumbai and its neighbouring areas have obtained heavy downpour. The incessant showers introduced the city to a standstill with many areas witnessing waterlogging.

“Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are very likely to receive extremely heavy rains at isolated places on Sunday. Raigad and Ratnagiri districts have similar alert for Saturday as well,” the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD stated.
On Saturday (June 12), Mumbai and neighbouring Thane are anticipated to obtain heavy rains as nicely, the climate company stated. “Mumbai and Thane districts would very likely obtain heavy to very heavy rainfall at just a few locations (on Saturday),” the forecast stated.
While for the remainder of the state, average rains with thunderstorms and lightning within the subsequent two days with assorted depth are being anticipated, the IMD stated on Friday night.
Earlier, IMD had issued orange alert issued for Mumbai, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur districts in western Maharashtra for the approaching days.
Meanwhile, the IMD apprised 21 out of 36 districts of Maharashtra obtained 60 per cent extra rains within the interval between June 1 to 10 on account of heavy showers that lashed the state.
