New Delhi: A CRPF jawan was wounded in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) explosion set off by Naxals in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. The jawan, who belonged to the CoBRA 206 Battalion of the CRPF, was on election responsibility within the Tondamarka space when the blast occurred, mentioned Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan.
The incident came about on the day when the primary section of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls started for 20 seats within the state’s southern area. The state, which has a 90-member home, goes to polls in two phases, with the second section slated for November 17.
Out of the 20 seats which can be polling within the first section, 12 are from the Bastar division, which is affected by Naxal violence. The polling can be happening in different Naxal-hit districts corresponding to Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker, Kabeerdham, and Rajnandgaon.
To guarantee free and truthful elections within the state, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been deployed to help the native police pressure within the state. Kanker Collector Priyanka Shukla mentioned, “This time, we have made tight security arrangements in the most Naxal-affected areas, and we are also using drones to monitor some polling centres.”
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has additionally directed that there must be randomization of police personnel and residential guards who’re deployed on the polling stations on the ballot day. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.
