NIA Team Arrives in Nagpur for Investigation

A workforce of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived in Nagpur on Tuesday to conduct a probe into threatening cellphone calls made to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, a police official stated.

The calls have been allegedly made by a homicide convict, Jayesh Pujari alias Kantha, who was arrested from jail in Belagavi, Karnataka, and booked below the anti-terror legislation UAPA.

A senior official of the Nagpur police stated the NIA had registered a case in Bengaluru and the Mumbai unit of the central company was directed to conduct an investigation.

A workforce of the NIA arrived in Nagpur from Mumbai and began accumulating paperwork and essential leads relating to the case, he stated.

Exploring the suspected function of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terror outfit, and the underworld in the episode is the primary focus of the investigation, stated the official.

On January 14, Pujari made a threatening name to Gadkari’s public relations workplace in Nagpur, demanding Rs 100 crore and claiming to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, in line with the police.

At that point, he was lodged in a jail in neighboring Karnataka.

He made one other name on March 21, threatening to hurt the BJP Lok Sabha MP from Nagpur if Rs 10 crore was not paid to him, the police stated.

Pujari was arrested and dropped at Nagpur on March 28 from jail in Belagavi metropolis of Karnataka, and the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was invoked towards him.

After receiving the inexperienced sign from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA officers launched an investigation into the fear angle as Pujari had relations with terrorists, together with Lashkar-e-Taiba’s South Division chief Captain Naseer, stated the official.

The homicide convict had additionally taken arms coaching in the Northeast, he added.
