Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 20 stated his authorities has no information on when the method for delimitation of constituencies will be over.
Speaking within the Assembly, Mr. Sarma stated any query the opposition could have concerning the course of can be positioned earlier than the Election Commission (EC) when its full group visits the State subsequent week.

“The State Government cannot say when the process will be completed as we are not directly or indirectly involved. EC is a central agency. Our work is only to provide the data,” he stated in reply to a query on the delimitation course of by Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed.
The course of started on January 1, the Chief Minister stated.
The delimitation train was not stalled within the State because of the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), he stated.
“The then Congress Government had written to the delimitation commission that the law and order situation was not conducive for carrying out the process then.
“When we had been requested if it will possibly be performed now, we stated the state of affairs is improved,” he told the Assembly.
Mr. Sarma asked the MLAs to continue working equally for all areas within their constituency without speculating which localities will be eliminated when the delimitation process is complete.
“The full bench of the EC is coming right here, and so they will maintain discussions with political events and different stakeholders. I request all to put earlier than them any misgivings and get the issues clarified,” he said.
In a supplementary question, Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha wanted to know the reason for the “hurry” in changing the number of districts in the State, immediately after the EC’s delimitation notification.
Mr. Sarma said the EC issued the notification on December 27, and it came into effect on January 1.
“This interval was supplied in order that the federal government could make modifications within the boundaries for assembly administrative exigencies,” he stated.
With the start of delimitation, no modifications in administrative boundaries can be made until the method is over, he stated.
Mr. Sarma stated that one other delimitation train could occur later if the bottom yr for the method is modified for the complete nation.
