New Delhi: Finnish telecommunications firm Nokia has filed quite a few patent infringement complaints towards smartphone brand OPPO relating to standard-essential patent (SEP) and non-SEP patents, the media reported.
According to GSMArena, these patents are about connectivity, interface and safety features and the complaints are filed in European and Asian markets.
Smartphone manufacturers OPPO and Nokia had signed a multi-year licensing settlement back in 2018 and it seems that the contract is over, the report mentioned.
The Finnish telecommunications firm put out an official assertion that OPPO has rejected the provide of renewing the contract so it needed to take authorized actions since Oppo continues to make use of these patents.
Media studies mentioned that OPPO discovered Nokia`s motion “shocking” and accused it of dishonouring the patent licensing below honest, affordable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) phrases.
“OPPO respects and protects its own and third-party intellectual property rights, and has been committed to benign patent licensing cooperation in the industry. OPPO opposes unreasonable consultations such as using litigation as a tool,” the smartphone firm mentioned.
The spokesperson for Nokia “believes that there is still a more constructive way to deal with the situation”.
