A sum of ₹11,314 crore has been put aside within the 2023-24 Budget for Southern Railway to execute infrastructure tasks. Yet, passenger associations level to tasks in Tamil Nadu that want extra funding. Among them are Mannargudi-Pattukottai and Pattukottai-Thanjavur strains which were allotted ₹43.50 crore
