New Delhi: The much-anticipated nominations for the 98th Academy Awards are finally out. Actors Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks announced the Oscar nominations on Thursday during a live presentation from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.
While hopes were pinned on India’s Homebound as the nominations were revealed on Thursday morning, the Neeraj Ghaywan directorial unfortunately failed to secure a spot among the five films shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category.
So far, only three Indian films have received nominations in this category—formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film—namely Mother India (1957), Salaam Bombay! (1988), and Lagaan (2001).
Homebound tells the story of childhood friends Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa), who dream of joining the police force despite facing barriers of caste, religion, and class.
The film has garnered international acclaim across major film festivals and award circuits.
