Over 500 fall ill in Delhi after consuming food prepared with ‘kuttu atta’

Over 500 folks have fallen sick in completely different components of east Delhi after consuming food prepared with buckwheat (kuttu) flour, officers mentioned on Wednesday. It prima facie seems to be a case of food adulteration or sale of spoiled flour, they mentioned.

Around 526 folks had been reportedly admitted to hospitals. They complained of uneasiness, abdomen ache and vomiting after they ate food prepared utilizing ‘kuttu’ flour to interrupt their ‘Navratri’ quick on Tuesday, a senior East Delhi district official mentioned.

Bunty (31), a resident of Trilokpuri and proprietor of the shop, has been arrested, the DCP mentioned.

In the same incident, six members of a household from ward quantity 2 of Mehrauli had been hospitalised in the early hours of Wednesday after consuming buckwheat flour, the police mentioned.

Information was obtained that the household had been admitted to Fortis Hospital, they mentioned.

During inquiry, it was discovered that one Raghuvinder Kumar had bought buckwheat flour from a store named Raghubir Son and Sons, Mehrauli, on Tuesday. He and his household consumed it round 10 pm, a senior police officer mentioned.

Later, they felt uneasy and began vomiting. They went to Fortis Hospital round 3 am and had been discharged in the morning. The household is again dwelling now, the police mentioned.

A case has been registered in opposition to the proprietor of Raghubir Son and Sons, they mentioned.

“The case under sections 273, 284 and 337 of the IPC has been registered at Mehrauli police station on the basis of a complaint received from Raghuvinder Kumar. Further investigation continues,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Atul Kumar Thakur mentioned.

No such criticism was obtained from some other buyer who purchased the flour from Raghubir Son and Sons. The food and adulteration division can be trying into the matter, he mentioned.
