Jaishankar at SCO meet: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday chaired the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ assembly in Goa. During the assembly, the member nations focus on a number of key points together with combating terrorism, preparations for the upcoming SCO Summit in India in addition to the reform of the organisation.

Addressing the media following the assembly, Jaishankar minced no phrases in slamming Pakistan over the terrorism problem. He mentioned that Pakistan’s credibility is depleting faster than even its Forex reserves so far as the matter of terrorism is involved.

Jaishankar’s hard-hitting phrases on Pakistan

“They are committing acts of terrorism. I don’t want to jump the gun on what happened today but we are all feeling equally outraged. On this matter, the terrorism matter, I would say that Pakistan’s credibility is depleting faster than even its Forex reserves,” the Minister added. Notably, Jaishankar’s remarks got here on a day when 5 Indian Army troopers had been martyred throughout a gunfight with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri. 

In his remarks earlier within the day, Bilawal Bhutto mentioned terrorism shouldn’t be “weaponised” for diplomatic level scoring. “Let’s not get caught up in weaponising terrorism for diplomatic point scoring,” he added. 

Hitting out at Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s ‘weaponising terrorism” remarks, Jaishankar said, “as a promoter, justifier and spokesperson of a terrorism trade which is the mainstay of Pakistan, his positions had been known as out and countered” together with at the assembly.

Jaishankar on cross-border terrorism

Ruling out bilateral talks until Pakistan addresses India’s issues on cross-border terrorism, Jaishankar mentioned victims of terrorism don’t sit along with perpetrators of terrorism to debate terrorism. “Victims of terrorism defend themselves, counter acts of terrorism, they call it out, they legitimise it and that is exactly what is happening. To come here & preach these hypocritical words as though we are on the same boat,” Jaishankar mentioned on a query on India-Pakistan ties, together with a query from a Pakistani journalist. 

The minister mentioned as Foreign Minister of an SCO member state, Bhutto Zardari was handled accordingly. “He came here as the Foreign Minister of an SCO Member State. That is part of multilateral diplomacy. Don’t see it as anything more than that. I think that nothing from what he said or what I heard he said deserves for this to be treated more than that,” Jaishankar mentioned. 

Jaishankar’s opening remarks

In his opening remarks at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers assembly in Goa on Friday, S Jaishankar expressed concern at terrorism together with cross-border terrorism. India has constantly raised the difficulty of Pakistan’s continued assist to cross-border terrorism and terrorist infiltration.
