New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the Theppakadu elephant camp in Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) and met the Bomman-Belli couple, the principle stars of Oscar Award-winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers”. Taking to his official Twitter account, Modi additionally shared photos with the “majestic elephants” on the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

It is noteworthy that the ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ documentary received an Oscar on the ninety fifth Academy Awards.
Helmed by debutant director Kartiki Gonsalves, the 41-minute documentary explores the dear bond between Raghu, an orphaned child elephant, and his caretakers – a mahout couple named Bomman and Belli – who dedicate their lives to guard him from poachers and lift him.
The venture, which is backed by producer Guneet Monga, beat 4 different contenders to clinch the statuette within the Best Documentary Short Category, making it the primary Indian documentary and considered one of solely two Indian productions to win an Oscar (the opposite one being `RRR`).

Earlier within the day, PM Narendra Modi went on a safari on the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, as a part of programmes to mark 50 years of “Project Tiger ‘.
Modi was wearing a speckled safari clothes and hat and reportedly coated about 20 km distance within the open jeep.
“Spent the morning at the scenic Bandipur Tiger Reserve and got a glimpse of India’s wildlife, natural beauty and diversity”, he mentioned in a tweet and shared some photos wherein he could be seen standing within the open jeep, and with a digicam and binoculars.

The Tiger Reserve is positioned partly in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district, and partly in H.D.Kote and Nanjangud taluks of Mysuru district.
On his arrival at Melukamanahalli helipad, the Prime Minister travelled by street to Forest Department’s reception centre at Bandipur, the place he paid respects to the forest martyrs memorial close by, earlier than leaving for Safari within the forest division’s jeep.
