Remark against Uddhav Thackeray: Raigad court discharges Union Minister Narayan Rane

A Justice of the Peace court in Raigad district of Maharashtra on April 2 discharged Union Minister and BJP chief Narayan Rane in a case pertaining to his controversial comment against the then chief minister Udhav Thackeray.

Mr. Rane was discharged from the case by Chief Judicial Magistrate (Raigad-Alibaug) S.W. Ugale. An in depth order will not be out there but.

An FIR was registered against Mr. Rane at Mahad in Raigad district beneath sections 189 (menace of damage to public servant), 504 (intentional insult to impress breach of public peace) and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code in 2021.

Mr. Rane was arrested from the coastal Ratnagiri district for his comment that he would have slapped Mr. Thackeray over the latter’s ignorance of the 12 months of India’s Independence.

“Mr. Rane allegedly made a statement on the [then] chief minister’s conduct. He didn’t make any statement which was promoting enmity between different groups on the ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever,” his lawyer Satish Maneshinde had submitted throughout the listening to of the discharge utility.

Furthermore, the alleged assertion was not prone to trigger any disharmony or emotions of enmity, hatred or ill-will between spiritual, racial, language or regional teams or castes or communities, the advocate had argued.

He had stated the case was politically motivated and therefore, dangerous in regulation.

Mr. Rane faces 4 FIRs throughout Maharashtra over his controversial comment.

“It is shameful that the chief minister [Uddhav Thackeray] does not know the year of Independence. He leaned back to enquire about the count of years of Independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given [him] a tight slap,” Mr. Rane had stated.

He had claimed Mr. Thackeray forgot the 12 months of Independence throughout his August 15 tackle to the individuals of the State.

Mr. Rane had defended his remarks against Mr. Thackeray, saying he hasn’t dedicated any crime by making them.

Mr. Thackeray had served because the chief minister from November 2019 to June 2022.
