New Delhi: Ahead of the GST Council assembly on Friday (May 28), Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged the Centre to take away GST on all life-saving medicines and equipment being used to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Congress chief stated charging GST on COVID-19 associated objects from folks struggling due to the pandemic is “cruel and insensitive”. 

In a tweet in Hindi, Vadra stated, “Demanding GST on COVID-19 associated merchandise from individuals who struggled for ambulances, beds, ventilators, oxygen, medicines, vaccines throughout the pandemic quantities to cruelty and insensitivity.” 

Sharing an inventory of medical equipment and their GST price, she added, “Today, within the GST Council, the federal government ought to take away GST on all life-saving medicines and equipment being used within the fight in opposition to COVID.” 

It is to be famous that this would be the first assembly in almost eight months of the GST Council, which is headed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and contains representatives of all states and Union territories. 

The GST Council is probably going to focus on a discount within the tax price on COVID-19 medicines, vaccines and medical equipment, as well as to means to make up for the shortfall in revenues promised to states.

On Thursday, Vadra, who’s a vocal critic of the BJP-led Central authorities launched a video and posed some questions to the Centre, together with why India being one of the most important vaccine producers is dealing with a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines. Tweeting the video, Vadra wrote, “The Government of India owes the people of India answers.”

Meanwhile, India reported 1.86 lakh new circumstances of coronavirus infections throughout the nation together with 3,660 deaths within the final 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry information on Friday.
