Prime Minister Modi continued with his tradition of wearing traditional pagdis, and the PM sported a special ‘Pagdi’ from Jamnagar on the ocassion of 72nd Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads the nation in paying tribute to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial at the India Gate, he can be seen wearing a traditional pagdi. The first such ‘Paghdi’ was gifted to the PM by the royal family of Jamnagar, Gujarat.

The PM wore his traditional kurta, pajama, and jacket and donned a long beard look with the red headgear gifted by the royal family of Gujarat.

The PM also extended greetings to countrymen on the day.  “Wishing all the people of India a Happy RepublicDay. Jai Hind!” tweets Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The ceremonial parade will start as usual at 9:43 am with the Presidential Guard escorting President Ram Nath Kovind from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the saluting dias. It will continue for the customary 90 minutes after that. But this year, the parade—which usually starts from Vijay Chowk and winds its way down to the Red Fort and covers a distance of 8.2 km—is expected to terminate at the National Stadium. This means that it will cover just about one third or about 3.3 km, a second official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year sported a saffron ‘bandhej’ headgear with a tail for the 71st Republic Day. Turbans have always remained a highlight of the prime minister’s sartorial choices at Independence Day and Republic Day events.

In the last Republic Day, he chose headgear made from Bandhej, a print developed using tie and dye method practiced mainly in states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
