Rupee falls 8 paise against US dollar in early trade


The rupee depreciated 8 paise to 82.68 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, July 7, 2023, amid a muted pattern in home equities and rising crude oil costs.

However, sustained overseas fund inflows supported the native unit and contained the autumn.

At the interbank overseas trade, the home unit opened at 82.68, registering a decline of 8 paise over its final shut.

On Thursday, the rupee had settled at 82.60 against the dollar.

Forex merchants mentioned contributors remained bullish on the buck on account of risk-aversion and rising expectations of hawkish financial coverage by the US Federal Reserve.

Moreover, rising crude oil costs additionally weighed on the home unit.

The dollar index, which gauges the buck’s power against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.04 per cent to 103.12.

Brent crude futures, the worldwide oil benchmark, rose 0.29 per cent to USD 76.74 per barrel.

In the home fairness market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was buying and selling 47.47 factors or 0.07 per cent decrease at 65,738.17. The broader NSE Nifty declined 18.40 factors or 0.09 per cent to 19,478.90.

Foreign Institutional (*8*) (FIIs) had been web patrons in the capital markets on Thursday as they bought shares price ₹2,641.05 crore, in line with trade information.
