Sabres’ Connor Clifton suspended by NHL for two games for head shot to Devils’ Nico Hischier

NEW YORK: The NHL suspended Buffalo Sabres defenseman Connor Clifton for two games with out pay for what it decided was an unlawful test to the head of New Jersey Devils ahead Nico Hischier on Friday night time.

Clifton will lose practically $35,000 in pay, and that cash will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, the league’s Department of Player Safety introduced Saturday.

In a video explaining the reasoning behind the suspension, the NHL mentioned Clifton made Hischier’s head the first goal and that the hit was avoidable. It was the primary such offense in Clifton’s 240-game NHL profession, the league mentioned.

Clifton was ejected for the hit to the Devils captain, which occurred on the 16-minute mark of the primary interval of Sabres’ 5-4 loss. Hischier performed within the second interval however didn’t return for the third.
