Savio Medeira insists to carry on giving. He has put in 17 years of uninterrupted trophy-laden service in the center of the midfield for Goan giants Salgaocar FC; has coached the India Men’s Senior National Team to a serious trophy triumph — the 2011 SAFF Cup; and now, he’s the Head of Coach Education on the All-India Football Federation (AIFF). Not to neglect that he additionally represented the Blue Tigers on the worldwide stage in the late 90s. The grasp educator, who has been busy lifting the requirements of coach training in the nation has now risen to the event to do his bit whilst (in his personal phrases), the “state of affairs is frightening” in Goa.
The former India midfielder has given The Goa Sikh Youth Community Kitchen a shot in the arm to boost their relief efforts during this pandemic. The Community has been working relentlessly to distribute over 500 free meals from the Goa Medical College (GMC) main gate and has also been delivering much-needed oxygen cylinders to over 40 locations.
Medeira has not only contributed in kind towards this community, but also offers words of encouragement to carry on serving humanity in these testing times.
“I came to know that the Sikh Youth community in Goa is giving free meals outside the medical college in Bambolim, and that they are looking for donations for groceries and other essentials so that people can continue being helped,” Madeira knowledgeable.
“I met them yesterday (May 10). I used to be completely happy that they’re doing such humanitarian work to assist individuals who don’t even get meals — in some instances can’t even have any form of meals, neglect meals. So, it’s an enormous factor.”
While this gesture is hardly the first display of the former Indian coach’s philanthropic nature, yet he prefers not to speak about the various initiatives he undertakes despite being pressed for an answer. In fact, even this donation would have escaped our attention had it not been for a youngster who insisted on a photo being clicked with the former India international.
“For me helping others is not to show, but to see that somebody is being helped and that’s what you have to be happy about.” says Medeira. “I do a little bit of donations, serving to whoever is in want. Whenever we attempt to attain out, they really feel higher. That’s a very powerful factor,” he averred.
On a closing note, the Goan stalwart had this message for everyone across the country, “I would like to say that at this difficult time, especially what India is going through, and we have to mentally be stronger to fight COVID.”
“Be extra compassionate to the people who find themselves going by means of this, don’t isolate them completely, give them a name and take a look at to be involved about what she or he is doing and maintain ourselves in prayers and make an apology from God to take this pandemic away as quickly, as solely He can.”
