The West Bengal authorities has knowledgeable the Election Commission that it has offered safety to the returning officer of the Nandigram meeting constituency which noticed a cliffhanger between TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, sources stated on Tuesday. On Monday, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief had alleged that the returning officer of Nandigram didn’t order recounting of votes even after she demanded it as he feared for his life.

The sources stated the returning officer was offered safety in individual and at his house on the instructions of the Election Commission (EC), amid studies that he was below stress whereas performing his obligation. On Tuesday, the ballot panel wrote a recent letter to the West Bengal authorities asking it to take all applicable measures to maintain a strict watch and monitor regularly the safety offered to the officer. The EC has additionally requested that the officer must also be prolonged applicable medical help and counselling.

Citing the letter, the sources stated that the state authorities has been instructed that any stress or hurt and even notion or furtherance of any such narrative shall have critical implications on your entire equipment deployed in the course of the elections. The state’s chief electoral officer (CEO) has already been directed to make sure the secure custody of all election information, together with polled EVMs and VVPAT machines, video recordings, and counting information strictly in accordance with laid down tips. The CEO will even coordinate with the state authorities for added safety measures at such areas, if wanted.
