Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Sunday carried out an inspection at a lodge in suburban Andheri and found a number of COVID-19 vaccines stored there in a traditional fridge, in violation of the laid down norms. The Covaxin doses found stored there have been sealed and an inquiry has been ordered, she mentioned.
The mayor carried out the inspection at The Lalit Hotel in Andheri East, throughout which some Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officers accompanied her.
Talking to reporters later, Pednekar mentioned there’s a tie-up between the lodge andCriticare Hospital, an area non-public hospital.
The hospital had procured the COVID-19 vaccine doses from the central authorities, which the civic and the state authorities weren’t conscious of, she mentioned.
“The Lalit Hotel had obtained a proposal from the hospital that folks could be vaccinated there (on the lodge).
As per the proposal, these folks, who wouldn’t have a household to take care of following the vaccination, can keep in the lodge after inoculation…Here 500 folks have been vaccinated,” the mayor mentioned.
The lodge is to not be blamed, however the hospital has not adhered to the norms regarding the chilly storage of vaccines, she mentioned.
“How did they get Covaxin doses when many BMC centres do not have them? I found doses, which had been stored in a traditional fridge. This may result in side-effects to these vaccinated.
The recovered vaccines have been sealed and an inquiry shall be carried out,” Pedkenar added.Â
