Emphasizing on the problem of confirmed railways tickets, Congress chief Shashi Tharoor has stated that the ability ought to not be merely about luck but a traditional facility including that the lopsided give attention to Vande Bharat is worrying.
Tharoor made the comment whereas citing a report which quoted an RTI reply to the state that greater than 2.7 crore passengers couldn’t journey by train in 2022-23 regardless of shopping for tickets due to being waitlisted.
“When are the long waitlists in the Indian Railways going to end? With 2.7 crore waitlisted passengers denied a confirmed seat, the year registered the largest number of tickets that remained waitlisted before they were automatically cancelled,” Tharoor stated.

“Introduction of Vande Bharat is welcome but the lopsided focus on it is worrying. According to a reply to an RTI plea filed by Madhya Pradesh-based activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur, the Railway Board in 2022-2023 logged 1.76 crore Passenger Name Record (PNR) numbers, towards which 2.72 crore passengers who have been scheduled to journey, have been robotically cancelled because of being waitlisted.
In 2021-2022, a complete of 1.06 crore PNR numbers, towards which 1.65 crore passengers have been scheduled to journey, have been robotically cancelled.
After cancellation of PNRs, the ticket fare is refunded to the passengers. The incapacity to supply confirmed tickets to passengers has been a recurrent drawback with the nationwide transporter.
