Smartphone shipments in India declined 16 p.c year-on-year in the January-March quarter to 31 million models, market analysis agency IDC stated on Thursday. Realme and Xiaomi shipments recorded the very best decline in the course of the quarter.
India’s smartphone market is predicted to see flat progress in 2023, the IDC report stated.
“31 million smartphones were shipped in India during the first quarter of 2023, a decline of 16 percent YoY, and the lowest first-quarter shipments in four years,” International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report stated.
Despite a dip of 11.4 p.c in cargo, Samsung led the market with a 20.1 p.c market share, adopted by Vivo with 17.7 p.c.
Oppo was the one model that recorded progress in cargo in the course of the quarter. It recorded a market share of 17.6 p.c.
Xiaomi’s cargo fell by 41.1 p.c to five million models and its market share fell to 16.4 p.c in the course of the reported quarter from 23.4 p.c a 12 months in the past.
Realme cargo dropped by greater than half to 2.9 million models and its market share dropped to 9.4 p.c throughout March 2023 quarter from 16.4 p.c in the corresponding quarter of 2022.
“Consumer demand remained sluggish amid uncertain macroeconomic conditions, and inventory levels were elevated because of high stocking in the second half of 2022,” IDC stated.
5G smartphone share elevated to 45 p.c from 31 p.c a 12 months in the past. The progress in 5G smartphones was led by Samsung, which accounted for greater than 1 / 4 of the shipments in the phase.
“5G smartphones continue to increase penetration in the low-end price segment, and we should expect a strong 5G play in the $150 (nearly Rs. 12,250) to $300 (nearly Rs. 24,500) segment in the second half of 2023 as high-end 4G models vacate the space,” IDC India Research Manager, Client Devices, Upasana Joshi stated.Â
