Real Sociedad edged nearer to a spot within the knockout stage of the Champions League with a snug 3-1 win over Benfica in Group D on Wednesday which ended the Portuguese facet’s faint hopes of reaching the final 16.

Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal and Ander Barrenetxea scored, and Brais Mendez missed a penalty kick, for Sociedad within the first 21 minutes of the sport, whereas within the second half Rafa Silva netted Benfica’s first purpose within the competitors after three earlier defeats within the group.
