South African footballer and Olympian Luke Fleurs has been killed in a hijacking in Johannesburg, his Kaizer Chiefs membership mentioned on April 4.
The 24-year-old defender was shot whereas ready to be attended to at a petroleum station in the Honeydew suburb in Johannesburg, based on police.
“Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time,” Kaizer Chiefs mentioned in a press release.
According to police spokesperson Mavela Masondo, the attackers fled with Fleur’s car and police have been investigating a case of homicide and automotive hijacking.
Fleurs beforehand performed for the nationwide under-23 aspect, representing South Africa on the Tokyo Olympics.
Fleurs is the newest amongst hundreds of people who find themselves victims to deadly hijackings in South Africa, which has one of many highest homicide charges in the world.
