Sri Lankan Navy arrests 16 Tamil Nadu fisherman; State BJP chief writes EAM Jaishankar to intervene

As many as 16 fishermen of Tamil Nadu, who had been fishing close to the Palk Strait, had been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday.

According to the officers, the arrested fishermen had been taken by the Lankan Naval personnel to hand them over to authorities of their nation. Their two boats have additionally been seized and brought away, they added.

PMK founder chief S Ramadoss on his Twitter deal with condemned the fishermen’s arrest. Lanka constantly arresting Tamil Nadu fishermen and seizing their boats leads to lack of livelihoods. “If a single boat is confiscated, a minimum of 20 families, comprising about 100 members of such families are affected.”

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Okay Annamalai wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar concerning the early repatriation of 16 fishermen from Pudhukottai and Nagapattinam who had been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
