Trials of made in India Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) have been efficiently performed at Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR) between April 26 and May 2, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officers stated on Monday. ATAGS is a totally indigenous towed artillery gun system challenge undertaken in mission mode by DRDO as an element of the artillery modernization programme of the Indian Army.

The Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) has been developed by the DRDO and produced by two corporations Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems Limited. It’s a real instance of public-private partnership resulting in a world class weapon system totally designed and developed in India. Such a weapon system is very strategic for India. The gun is predicted to be the mainstay of the Indian Army tower howitzer fleet and might also be used to exchange the Bofors howitzers.Â
