Sudan crisis: 231 Indians reach Ahmedabad from Jeddah


Indians evacuated from violence-hit Sudan underneath ‘Operation Kaveri’, upon their arrival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

As many as 231 Indians, together with 208 Gujarat residents, who had been evacuated from strife-torn African nation Sudan underneath the Centre’s ‘Operation Kaveri’, landed at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday, mentioned a State Government official. 

Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, who handles Non-Resident Gujarati (NRG) division of the State Government, welcomed these Indians on the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport upon their arrival right here from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on a particular flight, mentioned the official.

These 231 Indians included 208 Gujarat residents, 13 from Punjab and 10 from Rajasthan, the official mentioned. 

Under ‘Operation Kaveri’, India has been taking its residents in buses from the battle zones of Khartoum and different troubled areas to Port Sudan from the place they’re being taken to the Saudi Arabian metropolis of Jeddah on Indian Air Force’s heavy-lift transport plane and Indian Navy’s ships. 

From Jeddah, the Indians are being introduced again dwelling on both business flights or IAF’s plane. 

India has arrange separate management rooms in Jeddah, Port Sudan and the India embassy in Khartoum has been coordinating with them apart from being in contact with the Ministry of External Affairs’ headquarters in Delhi. 

Sudan has been witnessing lethal preventing between the nation’s military and a paramilitary group that has reportedly left round 400 folks lifeless.
