Supreme Court seeks T.N.’s response to Vedanta’s proposal

The Supreme Court on Monday requested the Tamil Nadu authorities to place its “considered decision” to Vedanta Ltd.’s willingness to undertake actions at its personal price to handle “serious deficiencies” reported by the State’s High-Powered Committee in regards to the closed Sterlite copper unit at Thoothukudi.

The Tamil Nadu authorities had constituted a High-Powered Committee for finishing up a “civil and structural safety integrity assessment study” of the plant. The committee, in its report in July final 12 months, had observed “serious structural defects”.

Meanwhile, the courtroom took word of a communication addressed by the Additional Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu to the Thoothukudi District Collector on March 6.

In this word, the Additional Chief Secretary had permitted the district official to primarily proceed with the evacuation of remaining gypsum from the plant unit utilizing the required manpower together with different actions, together with upkeep of the inexperienced belt and clearing of the wild bushes and dried bushes beneath the supervision of Local Level Monitoring Committee.
