The preliminary post-mortem report of the Swiss lady whose decomposed physique was present in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar has urged that she died due to suffocation, police mentioned on Monday.
The physique of Nina Berger, aged round 30 years, was discovered on a spot close to the wall of a municipal college on October 20. Her limbs have been tied with steel chains which have been locked.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vichitra Veer mentioned the fingerprints of Berger have matched with the useless physique.
“We had communicated with the Embassy of Switzerland and had managed to get the fingerprint of Nina Berger through the official channel, which was matched against that of the deceased. The match has been successful. This pinpoints the identity of the deceased as Nina Berger,” Veer mentioned.
Earlier, the police needed the household to come from Switzerland to determine the useless physique.
Police suspect that accused Gurpreet Singh locked Berger in a Santro automotive on the day of the incident. “It is suspected that she was suffocated to death. However, the final autopsy report may come in a few days,” a Delhi Police officer mentioned.
Police mentioned Singh, who was arrested within the homicide case, was not cooperating and altering statements and that they wanted extra time to interrogate him.
Singh earlier claimed that he had strangled Berger to loss of life, chained her physique and stuffed it within the automotive.
Gurpreet Singh’s police custody was prolonged by 5 extra days on Monday, the officer mentioned.
The autopsy examination of Berger’s physique was carried out on Saturday after the police bought an NOC (No-Objection certificates) from the Switzerland embassy.
The post-mortem was carried out by a board comprising a panel of three docs on the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital.
Police mentioned the physique was cremated and the ashes have been handed over to the embassy in order that it might attain Berger’s household in Zurich.
