Taliban insurgents shot useless 10 Afghans working for a de-mining company in an assault on their camp within the north of the nation, police mentioned on Wednesday.

Violence has sharply elevated throughout Afghanistan because the United States introduced plans in April to drag out all of its troops by September 11. Taliban insurgents are combating authorities troops in 26 out of 34 provinces, authorities officers say.

The assault on the mine-clearing staff got here late on Tuesday in Baghlan province, the place combating has been heavy in current weeks.

Provincial police spokesman Jawed Basharat mentioned the employees had been with the Halo Trust, the biggest demining organisation in Afghanistan.

“The Taliban introduced them into one room and opened hearth on them,” Basharat said. Fourteen people were wounded in the attack, he said.

A Taliban spokesman did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Halo Trust also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

After decades of conflict, Afghanistan is strewn with mines and unexploded ordnance and agencies have been working to clear them in the years since the Taliban were ousted in 2001.
