Madurai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the most crucial Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections in alliance with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), saffron party’s chief JP Nadda announced on Saturday. Both parties would contect the Assembly Elections together, he said, addressing a public meeting. Nadda, earlier in the day, chaired a core committee meeting of the party.

The senior BJP leader kickstarted his three-day visit to Tamil Nadu by performing a ‘puja’ and sought God’s blessings at the Meenakshi temple in Madurai district. Post this, he chaired a meeting of the Tamil Nadu BJP Core Committee where he discussed the poll preparations with state level leaders of the party.

This is for the second time in this month when the BJP President has visited poll-bound state. Earlier he had visited the southern state on January 14.

Tamil Nadu is among the five states where assembly elections will be held this year.

The declaration of alliance between the two parties came after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

However, when asked by reporters about possibility of alliance between BJP and AIADMK, EPS said that no political issues were taken up during his two-day visit to the national capital.
