Tamil Writer And Sahitya Akademi Awardee Ki. Rajanarayanan Breaths His Last

Puducherry: Tamil author Ki. Rajanarayanan fondly known as a KiRa handed away at his residence in Puducherry on Monday evening. He was 98 and is survived by two sons. KiRa was born in Idaiseval village close to Kovilpatti in Tamil Nadu on September 14, 1923. He turned a professor of folklore on Pondicherry University in 1989. He wrote folklores, novels, essays and brief tales.

KiRa suffered from ill-health at his younger age and was recognized with Tuberculosis. He was a seventh-grade dropout from college and began his literature profession solely on the age of 30. His first brief story ‘Mayamaan’ was printed in ‘Saraswathi’ Magazine in 1959.

The grand previous man of Tamil Literature gained Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel ‘Gopallapurathu Makkal’ in 1991. The story of an award-winning novel was based mostly on the lives of Telugu individuals who migrated to southern components of Tamil Nadu. He served as a member of Sahitya Akademi General Council & advisory board from 1998 to 2002.

One of the feats he achieved was a movie based mostly on his novel ‘Kidai’ screened at a global movie competition of India in 2003. In his 40 years of tenure at Pondicherry University, he had collected nearly 200 folks tales and so they had been printed as a collection of tales known as “Nattuppura Kadhai Kalanjiyam”.
