New Delhi: As Apple doubles down on native manufacturing in India, Taiwan-based iPhone producer Wistron is reportedly winding up its operations within the nation and Tata Electronics is ready to take over Wistron’s Karnataka manufacturing facility and manufacture new Apple merchandise.

According to a report in Hindu Business Line, Wistron can be winding down its operations and is “likely to approach the National Company Law Tribunal and the Registrar of Companies to dissolve its India operations within the next year.”

The 150-year-old Tata Group has taken a number of measures to step up its enterprise with Apple within the latest previous.

Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, advised IANS that the ‘Make in India’ initiative is ready to realize much more momentum with the emergence of homegrown majors, equivalent to Tata Electronics, “and the possibility of concurrent production of the Apple iPhone 15 and beyond.”

“As we progress, these initial steps will undoubtedly bolster India’s semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen its position in the global electronics value chains,” Ram added.

According to the report, Wistron can be ready for some subsidy funds underneath the smartphone production-linked (PLI) scheme, earlier than it winds down its India operations.

In FY23, Apple shipped greater than 7 million iPhones and half 1,000,000 iPads within the nation, registering a 28 per cent progress for iPhone shipments, in line with preliminary estimates offered by market intelligence agency CMR.
