In a transfer to pave the best way for completion of Gouravelli reservoir building works, the federal government mobilised big police power at Gudatipally and surrounding villages on Friday evening. About 50 individuals protesting towards the works had been arrested by the police.
According to sources, rigidity prevailed from Friday evening as numerous police personnel entered the village and confined residents to their properties. Some youths had been reportedly warned by police towards venturing out of their homes. No one was allowed exterior. It was said that about 50 individuals had been arrested and shifted to varied police stations. Some ladies alleged that they had been handled rudely by the police. The venture work would get accomplished as soon as the highway between Gudatipally and Husnabad was closed, mentioned the oustees. Some of them had been objecting to completion of the venture until their compensation points had been settled.
Baddam Raji Reddy, sarpanch of the village, alleged that a number of protesters, together with ladies, had been saved on the highway regardless of torching warmth. Some had been shifted to Maddur police station whereas others had been shifted to Koheda police station.
“The Government failed to keep the promise of ₹8-lakh-per-acre compensation to women oustess and double bedroom houses to the oustees. We are not against construction of the project, but let the government meet our genuine demands first,” mentioned Mr. Raji Reddy. The oustees determined to proceed their protest.
