The results of The Hindu Margazhi Music Contest for the 12 months 2022-23, are out. Judges went via round 600 entries and chosen 86 contestants, who will get present coupons of varied denominations as prizes.  

A complete of 32 prizes have been chosen by violin vidhushis and gurus M. Lalitha and M. Nandini within the devices class; 22 prizes have been chosen by guru and mridangam vidhwan Poongulam S. Subramanian, and within the Hindustani class, guru and vocalist Lalita Sharma selected 13 entries as match for prizes. 

Carnatic vocalists and gurus Gayathri Girish and Varalakshmi Anandkumar, who between them heard and judged a whopping variety of 306 entries beneath the vocal krithi and vocal thukkada classes, very judiciously selected 20 prize winners. This 12 months, there are additionally over 20 entries which have acquired particular point out from the judges.

As regular, the Child vocal class, had a number of contributors. Rare krithis and thukkadas were also featured. We had flutes, mandolin and veena instruments and had to split the prizes accordingly,” they mentioned. Mr. Subramanian mentioned that almost all prize winners had introduced excellent performances. “I particularly remember one tabla entry. He has amazing talent. A few mridangam entries had embellished the common Aadhi tala with khanda nadai and thishra nadai. I was happy to see many girls too performing ghatam and konnakol. Since many entries were of a professional standard, I had a real tough job selecting the finalists,” he mentioned.  

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, which has been supporting the competitors for the previous few years, is the co-sponsor this 12 months too. V. Vetriselvakkumar CGM (Corporate Communications), Southern Region, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., mentioned this was the third 12 months that the Company had joined palms with The Hindu for this contest. “We are glad to have the ability to encourage many younger abilities in classical music.
