The firm has invested $500 million upfront into the OpenAI rival and agreed so as to add $1.5 billion extra over time, the spokesperson stated.
Google is already an investor in Anthropic, and the recent funding would underscore a ramp-up in its efforts to higher compete with Microsoft, a serious backer of ChatGPT creator OpenAI, as Big Tech firms race to infuse AI into their purposes.
Amazon.com additionally stated final month it might make investments as much as $4 billion in Anthropic to compete with rising cloud rivals on AI.
In Amazon’s quarterly report back to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission this week, the web retailer detailed it had invested in a $1.25 billion word from Anthropic that may convert to fairness, whereas its skill to take a position as much as $2.75 billion in a second word expires within the first quarter of 2024.
Google declined to remark, and Amazon didn’t instantly reply to a Reuters request for remark.
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported the information of Google’s newest settlement with Anthropic.
