India discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur certified for the Tokyo Olympics finals after ending second in the ladies’s discus throw qualification occasion at Olympic Stadium on Saturday (July 31).
Kamalpreet was solely the second thrower who achieved the automated qualification of 64.00m after USA’s Valarie Allman as the latter threw 66.42m in her first try.
Meanwhile, Kamalpreet’s compatriot and veteran athlete Seema Punia didn’t qualify for the finals.

Playing in her maiden Olympics, Kamalpreet threw her first try at 60.29 and improved massively by 63.97 on her second. But it was her third try that secured her automated qualification in the 15 gamers’ subject in Group B.
Earlier, collaborating in Group A, Punia was the first to get moving into the group. No one made the automated mark from Group A as the qualification guidelines acknowledged that the qualifying efficiency of 64.00 (Q) or not less than 12 greatest performers (q) advance to the ultimate.
Seema, who certified at the final attainable on the spot for the Games, began the qualification with a foul throw. In her second try, Punia registered herself on the board with a throw of 60.57m and was then quickly third.
In her final try, Punia threw the discus to the 58.93m mark and failed to duplicate and even go close to her season-best effort of 63.63m whereas her private greatest is 64.70m.
All eyes will probably be on Kamalpreet Kaur once more on August 2 when she takes the subject in the ultimate.
