The developments centering Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay who has been taken off circumstances referring to West Bengal faculty job rip-off has introduced the give attention to the repeated instructions by the Calcutta High Court ordering investigation by central agencies in scams, irregularities and incidents of violence within the State. Justice Gangopadhyay had directed investigation by central agencies on greater than a dozen events in irregularities referring to the West Bengal faculty job rip-off, the final being within the alleged municipal recruitment rip-off.

Not solely Justice Gangopadhyay however a number of different benches of the Calcutta High Court had directed investigation by central agencies into irregularities and violence in West Bengal over the previous two years.

On April 27, a division bench of Justice of Acting Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to conduct a probe into the violence throughout Ram Navami procession at Shibpur in Howrah, Dalkhola in Uttar Dinajpur and Rishra in Hooghly district. The very subsequent day, Indranil Khan, the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha filed a petition demanding a probe by central agencies into the killing of a Rajbangshi youth at Kaliachak. Reacting to the developments on the Calcutta High Court, Trinamool Congress common secretary Abhishek Banerjee mentioned, “In 22 months (since Trinamool came to power in 2021) there have been directions of probe by central agencies 23 times”.

After coming to energy for the third consecutive time in 2021, the Trinamool Congress Government has been grappling with repeated orders of Calcutta High Court the place it had directed investigation by central agencies.

The Calcutta High Court directed CBI investigation within the submit ballot violence the place a number of supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been killed and tons of have been turned homeless. As the CBI was registering FIR in circumstances of submit ballot violence the violence at Bogtui village in March 2022 as soon as once more raised questions on the law-and-order scenario. Ten individuals have been burnt alive as a result of of a factional feud between native Trinamool Congress leaders and the Court didn’t hesitate to assign the matter to CBI.

What adopted March 2022 was CBI investigation in host of circumstances of violence together with circumstances of sexual assault and loss of life of minor at Hanskhali. Along with situations of violence, on a number of situations CBI probe was directed in West Bengal faculty job rip-off.

Political observers say that Abhishek Banerjee is true when he says that 23 investigations by the central agencies have been ordered however they level out to a big extent the functioning of State administration beneath Trinamool Congress regime stands out as the cause behind the Court not trusting the State investigation agencies.

“In most of the cases where the Calcutta High Court has ordered a probe by central agencies, there has been a failure of the State administration. It is not one bench of the Calcutta High Court but several judges on several issues from scams to law and order have ordered investigation by central agencies,” Biswanath Chakraborty, political analyst and professor of Political Science at Rabindra Bharati University mentioned.

In sure circumstances, like a CBI probe in municipal recruitment rip-off and assault on convoy of Union Minister of State, Nitish Pramanik the Supreme Court had stayed these orders.

Controversy over aid to Suvendu

Another problem that has come to the fore within the authorized tussle is the courts granting aid to Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Justice Rajasekhar Mantha of Calcutta High Court had granted aid to Mr. Adhikari within the FIRs lodged towards him by West Bengal police. The growth round giving aid to Mr. Adhikari turned ugly when posters have been put up towards Justice Mantha within the premises of the High Court and close to his residence. A 3 bench Judge of the Calcutta High Court is listening to the contempt petition.

“The Trinamool Congress has approached the Supreme Court five times challenging the High Court order. The government is spending crores of rupees higher only to target me,” Mr. Adhikari has mentioned on the problem.

WB Congress chief’s letter to Singhvi

The developments within the Court haven’t solely resulted in conflict of phrases between the Trinamool and the BJP. A bit of West Bengal Congress management has been upset over its prime leaders representing Trinamool Congress and West Bengal authorities within the Supreme Court. Senior Congress chief P. Chidambaram had in May 2022 confronted protests at Calcutta High Court when he appeared for West Bengal authorities in a case. State Congress chief Koustav Bagchi on April 30 mentioned that he has written a letter to Abhishek Manu Singhvi stating that he representing the Trinamool and West Bengal authorities in apex courtroom has introduced “shame” to Congress employees in WB.
