Tripura DM apologises over raids during marriage ceremony

West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who led the raids within the two marriage halls in Agartala, on Tuesday apologised for disrupting the marriage ceremony. “If anyone got hurt due to my action, I am apologising for that. I have done this for the larger interest of society and the people. I have taken the strict action to give a message to the people to maintain the government SOP,” Yadav informed native tv on Tuesday night time.

As many as 31 individuals, together with 19 ladies, had been detained from a marriage occasion in Tripura for violating the night time curfew and different Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) enforced to curb the Covid unfold.

Tripura Chief Secretary earlier in an order final week imposed an evening curfew within the Agartala Municipal Corporation space from 10 p.m. to five a.m. from April 22 onwards.

The order mentioned that in closed areas, a most of fifty per cent of the seating or corridor capability needs to be allowed for any social, cultural, leisure or political gathering with a ceiling of 100 individuals whereas in open areas, greater numbers could also be allowed based mostly on the dimensions of the bottom with a ceiling of 200 individuals.

District and police officers mentioned that after getting the knowledge of the violation of the night time curfew rules and SOPs, the West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Shailesh Kumar Yadav raided two marriage halls within the metropolis the place a lot of individuals comprising males, ladies and youngsters attended the marriage events late on Monday night time.

On the instructions of the DM, police detained 31 individuals together with 19 ladies for violating the federal government orders whereas many others escaped when the police resorted to a gentle lathicharge.

However, all 31 individuals had been subsequently launched from the West Agartala police station.

Yadav informed the media {that a} part of policemen who had been hand-in-glove with the marriage events allowed holding the ceremonies blatantly violating the federal government orders.

“All these people are highly educated but they did not follow the norms amidst the alarming rise in coronavirus cases. These same people on the other hand will accuse the government of doing nothing. I also suggest suspending the officer-in-charge of the West Agartala police station,” the IAS officer acknowledged.

A video of the DM’s raids within the marriage halls went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, many individuals together with two ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs accused the DM of excessive handedness whereas imposing the federal government orders.

“The DM physically harassed and abused the priests at the marriage ceremony, bridegroom and others,” BJP legislator Sushant Chowdhury mentioned on his social media posts.
