UP gets a whopping Rs 10,870.5 cr under Jal Jeevan Mission, highest allocation in history

New Delhi: The Centre has allotted a whopping Rs 10,870 crore to Uttar Pradesh under the Jal Jeevan Mission for 2021-22, the highest allocation to this point to any state, the Ministry of Jal Shakti mentioned on Saturday (June 12).

The quantity is greater than 4 instances what was allotted to the poll-bound state final 12 months. The northern state will go to the polls in 2022. Uttar Pradesh has assured to attain the purpose of offering water to each rural family by 2024, the ministry mentioned.

“The Union government has increased the Central allocation for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission to Uttar Pradesh to Rs. 10,870.50 crore. In 2019-20, the Centre allocated Rs 1,206 crore, which was increased to Rs 2,571 crore in 2020-21. Thus, this year, the central allocation for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh has increased four-fold,” the ministry mentioned.

The ministry had final week introduced Rs 6,998.97 crore to West Bengal, the second-highest allocation to a state under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have been allotted Rs 3,410 crore and Rs 5,117 crore, respectively. The northeastern states have been allotted a complete of Rs 9,262 crore.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Maharashtra has been allotted to Rs 7,064.41 crore, whereas Chhattisgarh acquired Rs 1,908.96 crore. The Jal Jeevan Mission goals to offer faucet water connections to all rural households by 2024. The Union finances for 2021-22 has earmarked Rs 50,000 crore for this formidable scheme.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, throughout his final assembly with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, had assured to offer all help to the state under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Adityanath had additionally assured that his authorities would guarantee faucet water connection to each rural house by 2024 as introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the course of the announcement of the scheme on August 15, 2019.
