Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue Latest Update Today: No Headway After 7 Days, Vertical Drilling To Start Today

The rescue operation on the Silkyara tunnel has entered the eighth day right now with no main headway to this point. The Indian Army has been roped in and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will conduct an on-site inspection of the operation right now. The under-construction tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri nationwide freeway collapsed within the early hours of November 12 with 40 employees trapped inside. THe employees are being given meals and oxygen throw small pipes and psychological consultants are speaking to them via walkie-talkies. Yesterday, a high official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) took inventory of the reduction operations.

While the horizontal drilling was halted after a loud noise from the machine, the rescuers at the moment are trying in the direction of vertical drilling to drag out the trapped employees. “We were trying to reach them horizontally, now we will also try vertically. A spot right above the tunnel has been identified and marked. A hole will be drilled from there to reach there. The depth of the hole would be approximately 300-350 feet… The horizontal attempt of rescue would also begin from Barkot end of the tunnel,” stated Uttarkashi DFO DP Baluni.

The officers are prepared with 5 completely different plans in case any of the plan fails.

Plan One – Drilling within the tunnel to put pipes for the rescue operation.

Plan Two – (*7*) for drilling from behind the tunnel.

Plan Three – Rescue by drilling from above the tunnel.

Plan Four – The left perpendicular lower is the fourth plan.

Plan Five – The proper perpendicular lower is the fifth plan.

Yesterday, Chris Cooper, a micro-tunnelling skilled, arrived on the Silkyara tunnel incident web site to watch and oversee the rescue operation. Cooper is a Chartered Engineer with an skilled monitor document for supply of Major International key civil engineering infrastructure, Metro tunnels, Large Caverns, Dams, Railway, and Mining Projects.

The rescuers have been attempting to do horizontal drilling to put large-diameter pipes. While they managed to put pipes to 25 metres, the machine hit a roadblock after hitting a metallic object. Also, the consultants current on the web site expressed concern of additional collapse if the steadiness will not be maintained throughout drilling. Thus, they’re now trying in the direction of vertical drilling.
